LUCIA DEL GRECO is a director and playwright working between Rome and Barcelona. After completing a BA in Literature and Philology and an MA in Comparative Literature at La Sapienza University in Rome, she received a scholarship for a PhD at Oxford University, focusing on pietas in Virgil and Latin literature. She later completed a BA in Directing and Writing at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
Her work is shaped by influences from Literature, Philosophy, Art, and Cinema. Challenging traditional notions of mimesis in theatre, her projects are characterized by a strong visual and atmospheric impact and a constant exploration of light, space, and sound, as well as a deep interest in symbolism.
In October 2025 she premiered a free adaptation of LITTLE WOMEN at the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona, and she is currently working on two micro-operas for the Gran Teatre del Liceu and for L’Auditori. At the same time, she is developing her first feature film project, titled HOTEL PARADÍS.
In 2024, she adapted and directed PURA PASSIÓ by Annie Ernaux, which premiered at Temporada Alta. The play received three nominations at the 2025 Critics Awards and Butaca Awards, and received two awards for BEST PLAY and BEST LIGHTING DESIGN. Her following work, MATA’M PSICOSI based on the poetry of Dolors Miquel, premiered in February 2025 at Fundació Joan Brossa.In 2023, her debut piece, HEART’S DESIRE by Caryl Churchill, earned her three nominations and the REVELATION ARTIST PRIZE at the 2023 Critics Awards. Her works have been presented in different theatres and European festivals and include the direction of LA POUSSIÈRE by Llatzer Garcia, within the Emerging European Dramaturgy project, at the Comédie de Reims in 2024, in collaboration with the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya; the creation of IF I CAN’T DANCE, IT’S NOT MY REVOLUTION with a group of eighteen adolescents at Teatre Lliure in 2024; and the direction of ELS ENCANTATS by David Plana at Sala Beckett in 2023.
