JEANNE D’ARC

Inspired by some characteristics of the historical figure of Jeanne d’Arc, the project moves between the dreamlike and the performative. It presents a shattered world where the life of the historical figure Jeanne d’Arc blends with the life of a contemporary Joan, a girl with delusions of grandeur who desires to become a modern-day heroine, someone immortal: a victim of a capitalist system that seeks to exploit all her talents, she lives, in the first person, the story of the rise and fall of a myth.

The mystical and unexpected event permeates the entire proposal: if the historical figure spoke with angels, our Joan speaks with the voices of capitalism, leading her to exploitation—sexual, labor, emotional—until she ends up burned by the very system she fought for, thus fulfilling her destiny.

Jeanne d’Arc blends fiction with biography and meta-theatricality, recovering some facts from the historical figure to distort them into their contemporary equivalents, and inventing a parallel story that speaks of the ambitions of a girl willing to do anything to achieve her goals.
